If Only it were Always this Clear
January 12, 2009
Scripture:
Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you.” (Genesis 31.3)
Observation:
What comforting words! Because of how Jacob left things with his father and brother, the journey home would be fraught with fear and doubt. But God makes it clear that now is the time; home is the destination; and, God’s presence is certain!
It would be so nice to have this assurance about each hesitant step that we make – that now is the time, the destination is not in question, and knowing that God would be with me! Well, we know about the last one – God promised that he would never leave us or forsake us; Jesus said that he’d be with us always. But the other two – the timing and the destination aren’t always as certain.
Application:
When big, important decisions come, I will seek God, and ask him to be this clear with me about the when, the where, but not the with. I will remember God’s promises from Deuteronomy and Matthew – that God will be with me always!
Prayer:
Thank you, God, for your promises to be with me. Thank you for your word and how clearly you spoke to Jacob about the timing and destination for this next step in his life. I ask that you would be this clear for me the next time I am to take a step of faith. Thank you for your continued leading and guidance. Amen.
